More details about the Google Pixel 5a revealed in FCC filing

Google is expected to launch the Google Pixel 5a soon and the closer we move to the launch, the more details have started coming out. Now, Some more details about the upcoming smartphone have been revealed thanks to an FCC filing. According to this filing, three models have been mentioned along with a few features that weren’t confirmed for the affordable smartphone yet. The probable specs of the Google Pixel 5a have been tipped for a while, but the ones revealed in the listing haven’t been confirmed yet.

Going by the listing, the Google Pixel 5a should come with sub-6GHz 5G, NFC, Bluetooth LE support, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, according to reports by DroidLife. While these details are not exactly exciting, some of these features, particularly the 5G support, were not available on the standard Google Pixel 4a. So, it is possible that Google might release only one model of its mid-range device instead of a 5G and a cheaper LTE version.

The “supposed” FCC filing covers three model numbers, two of which are - G4S1M and GR0M2. These were spotted by DroidLife in May this year, but this is the first time FCC has mentioned it. The third device comes with the model number G1F8F and this one is new. The G1F8F seems to be nearly identical, as per hardware specifications, to the other two models as per the screenshot of the filings shared by @Cstark_27 on Twitter. All the phone models appear to be identical except for some of the networking differences like disabled CDMA and some LTE bands.

The new A4RG1F8F model number did show up in the FCC application database with about 60 other entries which were all submitted on April 26. However, this listing does not reveal any more information than what we already have.

Google I/O 2021is already over. That is usually the time Google announces the new Pixel, as they did with the original Google Pixel 3a. However, the Google Pixel 4a was revealed in August last year after many delays, so we expect the Google Pixel 5a to be revealed around the same time this year, which should be next month. Plenty of rumours supporting this speculation have also been doing the rounds as well.

Thanks to the rumours, we’ve been able to vaguely figure out the specs on the Pixel 5a. So far we know that the Pixel 5a should come with the Snapdragon 780G under the hood, which is the successor to the Snapdragon 765 that was used on the Pixel 4a 5G. However, it is possible that Google might use the same chipset on the Pixel 5a. As far as design is concerned, we expect the Google Pixel 5 to look pretty much like the Pixel 4a, at least that is what the leaks and renders suggest. August is not far, so we’ll just have to wait a bit to know for certain.

WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned encrypted messenger service, had a rough start to the year, facing a lot of criticism when it announced its new privacy policy. In the meanwhile, WhatsApp is also looking at changing users' experience in surprising ways. It has been revealed now that the company has been busy working on new features to its messenger service such as a new View Once mode for image sharing and upcoming support for using the service across multiple devices.

Apart from testing new features on the beta version of WhatsApp, the company has also been working on updating the visual appearance of the app for users on iPhone and Android devices. These changes were spotted by feature leaker WABetaInfo, on the latest beta versions of the WhatsApp app for Android and iOS. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming visual improvements to WhatsApp for Android and iOS devices.

WhatsApp recently began working on larger link previews for URLs on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, and WABetaInfo reports that the service has now begun working on the same feature on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. Users who have signed up to receive beta builds of WhatsApp for Android who have updated to this version will not see the feature, however. That is because the feature is still under development and will probably be introduced at a later date. According to WABetaInfo, if some websites do not have a high-resolution preview for the URL, WhatsApp will show a smaller thumbnail instead.

Smaller profile pictures on WhatsApp for Android

We recently reported that WhatsApp has made some changes to the notification ‘action’ font colours on the app (from green to a grey-blue colour) then reverted the changes after users complained of reduced readability. The company has also recently removed the line separators between chats for many users, and the latest beta version 2.21.14.8 reportedly gets rid of the outdated design for even more users. Users who notice the line separators are gone, might see smaller profile photos in the app, according to WABetaInfo.
